Prof Iain Buchan invited to help advance Manchester's international profile
Selected as one of 14 high-profile industry leaders chosen to maximise their global networks and help advance Manchester's international profile.
The Mbassador programme is managed by Marketing Manchester (part of MGC) and was officially launched at Manchester’s King Street Townhouse Hotel on 26 January, 2016.
As part of his role as a Global Ambassador Prof Buchan will highlight the city and signpost the opportunities it offers at international meetings and conferences over the coming year.
Prof Buchan was selected to represent Manchester thanks to his alignment to two of the cities key priority areas for development: Digital Technology and the Life Sciences.
Director of the Health eResearch Centre, Prof Buchan is Professor in Public Health Informatics and leads the Centre for Health Informatics, which he founded, at The University of Manchester. Nationally, he is also CO-Director of The Farr Institute for Health Informatics.
Internationally, Prof Buchan is one of the world’s leading researchers in using big data to improve health and care, and was only the third Briton to be honoured with Fellowship of the American College of Medical Informatics. He leads a multi-disciplinary team of around 60 researchers, who are the UK’s most published group in the field, working not only on making scientific discoveries from health data but also building new tools to empower patients and clinicians to take better decisions.
Prof Buchan also conceived the new Connected Health Cities programme due to be launched in March.
