NHS England is committed to ‘high quality care for all, now and for future generations’. This cannot be delivered without taking action to promote equality and reduce health inequalities for all the communities we serve. Alongside this values-based commitment, we have legal duties to promote equality and to reduce health inequalities, as required by the Equality Act 2010 and the Health and Social Care Act 2012 which amended the NHS Act 2006.
The session will cover:
The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), of the Equality Act 2010, and duties to reduce health inequalities; including access and outcomes in healthcare, and the duties for public involvement and consultation as provided under the NHS Act 2006 as amended by Health and Social Care Act 2012.
Aim:
- To introduce you to the key legislation in place for you to use in service transformation in order to:
- Meet the diverse needs of our patients, communities and populations; ensuring we are working to address the needs of those groups that face the greatest levels of health exclusion and the starkest health inequalities
- To understand why good public involvement and consultation is essential and what that might look like
- To meet our ethical and legal duties to advance equality of opportunity, reduce health inequalities and manage any potential risks for the organisation.
- provide information on the tools available to help you in your role
- develop your awareness and understanding regarding the equality and health inequalities impact analysis
These courses are free for everyone.
Who is this programme for?
This one day training programme is for members of Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships, including CCG colleagues, providers of transformation services, and colleagues working with Vanguards sites. The training will discuss current and planned transformations, strategic policy, decision making and legal risk and therefore most appropriate for Band 8 and above.
