Workshop on Optimising and reporting participant engagement in digital health studies

Digital technologies open up unprecedented opportunities for health care and epidemiological research. But researchers who embark on digital health projects may face various challenges:
- How to maximise participant engagement when you compete with Whatsapp and Pokémon Go?
- How does poor participant engagement influence the validity and generalisability of your study findings?
- How should you measure and report participant engagement and attrition in research publications?
In this 2-hour workshop, Sabine van der Veer and Anna Beukenhorst will give you a tour of the key things you need to know about participant engagement in the context of digital health studies. By the end of the session, you will (1) understand the importance of participant engagement; (2) be aware of factors that may influence engagement; and (3) know how to apply existing frameworks and standards for measuring, reporting and optimising engagement.
