WHY: UK productivity is lagging behind, the North has a productivity gap of over £4 per person per hour compared to the South.

Yet there has been limited research into what impact the North’s poor health, where dying early is a fifth more likely than for southerners, has on the region’s wealth. The Northern Health Science Alliance commissioned public health experts from six of the North’s top universities: Newcastle, York, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Lancaster to look at the issue.
