Performing Medicine: The Art of Healthcare

Performing Medicine is an award-winning programme created by theatre company Clod Ensemble, which uses methods found in the arts to develop skills essential to clinical practice and healthcare.

Performing Medicine works in partnership with organisations across the UK such as Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, King’s Health Partners, and Health Education England to create courses for  medical students, foundation year doctors and health professionals. It is the only initiative of its kind; unique because it is led by established associate artists from a range of creative disciplines, in collaboration with medical educationalists and health professionals.

Using techniques and methodologies from the performing arts, literature and visual arts, Performing Medicine courses encourage participants to develop skills such as non-verbal communication, self care, resilience, vocal clarity, leadership, teamwork, appreciation of diversity and difference, reflective practice, observation skills and anatomy.

Our programme of Public Events, delivered in collaboration with arts organisations such as the Wellcome Collection and Tate Modern, is a platform to explore urgent issues relating to our health, an opportunity to examine our expectations of the healthcare profession, to share responsibility for its evolution and to enrich the ways in which we think about and experience our own bodies.
